Communication begins with language and speech, both particular ability which has made the evolution and growth of mankind possible. When wanting to deliver a message to someone, it is safer to do so by person. Sending a message through anyone else is unreliable, as the game of Chinese whispers shows. Messages carved in stone is a not very good way way of communicating as its recipients must travel to receive it. It is more efficient if the message travels.
There are forms of long-distance communication that don’t use any form of words or written communication. The smoke signals used by people in the past are of this kind. The downside of this past form of communication has it letdowns as it only is capable of symbolising limited messages such as danger or victory. Written messages was a common form of communication used by the government in early times. Much of our knowledge of those times was formed by the messages, discovered by archaeologists.
